The word Pendant derives from the Latin word for to hang and in fact a pendant usually refers to an item of jewellery which hangs from a chain worn around the neck. The difference between a pendant and a necklace is that a necklace has the decoration as part of the chain and is not removable from the chain as a pendant is.
